4:33 AM PDT Friday 21 August 2020
Special weather statement in effect for:

Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
Heavy downpours are likely today over the south coast.

An upper disturbance embedded in a southwest flow of moist, unstable air will move across the south coast today. Consequently, widespread showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms are in store through much of the day. A few heavy downpours could give rainfall rates of 15 to 20 mm within one hour, particularly near the North Shore Mountains. This area is more prone to localized flooding with these rainfall rates.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.

Looks like the front is stalled offshore and over Vancouver island.

Although looking at the radar, it doesn't have quite a good handle on things.

Wow! Heavy downpour right now. I'm surprised there's no thunder with this.

Been raining pretty steadily all morning.

I've been getting torrential rain off and on today. This is crazy, especially for August!
