Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I don't mean this as a complaint but I have a kind request.
Can we please be a little more positive around here?
I'm not suggesting hyping things up to 1950-1960 analogs.
We don't have to be as radically positive as the American forums so as to be delusional. However, we also don't need to go to the other extreme being so radically negative.
What about just having a balance of being hopeful yet realistic.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
From a recent post in the American forum:
So now we know. The ECMWF ensemble model horizontal resolution drops to 65km into the second week which should explain the unrealistic snowfall forecast for lots of places around here. Bellingham’s “pixel†may have an elevation of 1000’ or whatever if average elevation of 40 mile square is used . Certainly the barriers to outflow of Arctic air into the region (cascades and Rockies) are underrepresented.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Or as I have observed before: wishcasting in reverse is still a form of wishcasting.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 4:37 pm I don't mean this as a complaint but I have a kind request.

Jk Jr.
I haven't personally seen anybody go over the line into radically negative. There are times when disappointments happen and people (like me) just rant a bit. I don't think that's unhealthy. I mean you can take any situation here and apply a healthy dose of skepticism to it. Its mostly in good fun. If we're only allowed to really post positive stuff then it takes a lot of the fun out of it. Letting off steam is healthy. When we cross into cynical then I do understand why that's unhealthy.
I had a few rants back in February 2019 that crossed into what I would call meltdown territory. If I read them now I wouldn't be able to un-cringe until next Sunday. I had not previously conceived of a situation where Seattle gets two feet and we get a frozen dust storm. But now I know that can happen. Its part of the learning process. Just ride that weather wave until you end up on top of a glorious 50 Cm of snow and a -15 reading on your ice encased thermometer and then we can just celebrate. This is kind of like being a fan of a sports team. Only one team out of 30 gets to climb the mountain in the end, everybody else gets pain in the end but hope for the future.

Fair enough. Perhaps I overreacted, and for that I'm sorry. I have just been feeling a sense of negativity on here but maybe its just me.PortKells wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 4:48 pm Bah humbug.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I don't think anyone is being negative on here ? I think everyone is just being realistic and it comes off as negative because it's not what everyone wants to hear. Being hopeful is fine but that shouldn't stop people from being a realist and not getting their hopes up. What storm said was truthful so I don't see anything wrong with his post. I rather see a bunch of posts being realistic what the models are showing then 1000 posts of wishcasting.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 4:37 pm I don't mean this as a complaint but I have a kind request.

Do I think we will see snow this year ? I do.
Do I think some people will be let down ? I certainly see that. As it stands we could have a window for the end of December it's how the models roll back and forth

Love the It's just weather and weather will do what it wants. After years of riding the ups and downs I just take it as it comes. All the best to all the weather nuts out there.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 5:07 pm Well Jr. It's all good enjoy the holiday's we all need it after the year we've been through.
