The end of the 00z GFS showing the cold air in Western Canada with blocking in a favourable spot for us.

#endofJAN & #thebeginningofFEB will be the period to watch.

Cheer up Johnny, it’s only weather.

There are some positive signs as we look toward the end of the month. Not saying anything is a slam dunk, but at least it gives us something to chat about and track.

Forrest Gump wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:35 pm Are you talkin extreme cold while snowing? If so what's your temp cut off ? I remember 3 days of almost non stop snowfall in 90 or 91 with temps hovering around -3°. Don't think we get much snow around here when temps are colder than -7 as skies usually clear up with a strong ridge.
Talking about extreme cold preceding big snows, and sometimes follow extreme snowfalls too.

Our biggest regional snowstorms occur when moisture overruns a deep pool of cold air at the surface. Here are some examples...

Check out these clown range 2m temps (ËšF):

Won’t verify, of course, but fun to fantasize about. Even 10˚F warmer still means a decent garden-variety blast, which sure beats all the torching currently going on.

It's called clown range for a reason.
