1950 was a beast. Not only extreme cold but long lasting. Monthly average was an incredible -6.3c at YVR.

From past data collected at other stations (New Westminster and Agassiz), the only other cold waves to the same intensity AND duration that we know of was back in Jan 1862, 1875 and Jan/Feb 1893.

Here's a link to a post I made a few months ago regarding Jan/Feb 1893: viewtopic.php?f=201&t=1171

Another link to a post by glacier regarding Jan 1875:
viewtopic.php?f=111&t=631&p=87171&hilit=1875#p87171

I've also posted about the winter of 1861/62 before but that one was basically like Jan 1950 in terms of anomalies but over the entire winter.

The Fraser froze right out to the coast and remained locked in ice until March. It wasn't until mid April that it melted out in the eastern valley.

Looks like from one of the antenna sites John east of Promontory at night there's a red marker light that blinks.

Models done with any extreme cold. PV will remain bottled up north of Hudson Bay unless we see any SSW (unlikely).

Roads have been very icy the past couple mornings. Almost undriveable yesterday after a cycle of rain showers and clearing skies that repeated overnight.
