Its pretty much set in stone. Heat doesn't disappear from the models like cold does, in my incredibly biased view.

Depends on what you qualify as heat vs cold waves. If the threshold is days above 30c or days below -10c at YVR, then it's fairly similar actually in recent years.

That is one way of looking at it. But you well know we've had lengthly heat events that would have easily eclipsed 30C if not for smoke insulating us from solar energy. I also look at it as the last below average summer was like 15 years ago. So it would be silly to suggest that cold waves and heat waves are happening at the same magnitute or frequency.

Not to mention, this is all expected with global warming. None of it should surprise us. You will continue to get your hot summers year after year until it reaches a point where even you probably find it too much. Seems like the southern states have reached that point. Getting to 45-50C with the frequency they have should be the point where people take notice that things are not well and normal.

In my view, getting a summer like 2019 is the best we can do. Top 10 warm yes, but no lengthly hot snaps and no major fires and smoke outbreaks. Some well timed precipitation to keep things alive.

Last summer was fairly normal really. Some rain. Some heat but nothing remarkable.

Totally anecdotal, as I’ve never really looked at numbers closely but 1 thing that seems to have changed in recent years is the duration of the heat waves. We have always seen spikes of heat in our climate and they have historically produced temperatures very similar to what we have seen recently. But the long duration heat waves with lengthy periods above 30C seem to be happening with more frequency.
