How often have we seen 850s in the 30s? Or even above 25? Cause that's what 06z GFS/00z GEM have, respectively.

2009 maybe. I'm probably wrong, but that's what comes to mind.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:33 am How often have we seen 850s in the 30s? Or even above 25? Cause that's what 06z GFS/00z GEM have, respectively.

Overdone. That would equal or even surpass the record breaking heat wave of July 2009. The 00z Euro has 850mb Temps over 20c but not exceeding 25-30c (except in the southern interior). That would mean mid 30s inland but not high 30s or even 40s! No way I can't see it happening.

I can't see it either, but still it isn't exactly happy thoughts inducing to even look at.Coquitlam79 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:59 am Overdone. Even the Euro (00Z) which generally under does temperatures during heat waves tries to get there on Saturday.

850s in the 30s. Never. I thought the record was around 27C for the south coast. I could be wrong.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:33 am How often have we seen 850s in the 30s? Or even above 25? Cause that's what 06z GFS/00z GEM have, respectively.

You know what Sardis...you've just made me realize that yes, I guess I AM getting back to myself again! Depression is a sneaky foe- it creeps up on you until you lose yourself but maybe it leaves the same way. You hardly realize it. But know that you mention it, I AM finding myself caring about the weather again and some of my previous interests and hobbies!Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 9:41 pmQuick note nice to see Mrs. Leighbugs back in the loop hope your feeling better.![]()

Re: June 2021 Fotecasts And Discussions
This upcoming heat...OMG.
Okay, admittedly I DO love me some hot weather. But NOT if it leads to forest fires. I will seriously cry if we get a 2017/2018 repeat. Even last year had smoky skies at the beginning of September. No thanks.

Re: June 2021 Fotecasts And Discussions
Like Bonovox and Monty said, I don't think 850s have ever exceeded 30c on the south coast.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 9:33 am How often have we seen 850s in the 30s? Or even above 25? Cause that's what 06z GFS/00z GEM have, respectively.
Topping 25c would be top tier heat... off the top of my head I'd say south coast heatwaves like May 1985, September 1988, July 2006 or July 2009 had 850s around 25c or just above.
Less sure about this one but I recall early August 2017 and early September 2017 had some impressive upper level readings too... was only less statistically significant at the surface because of all the smoke.

Re: June 2021 Fotecasts And Discussions
No way YXX tops 40c. Most likely outcome is models pullback on the extreme relatively quick hitting heat and we see an extended (1-2 week) period of temps between 28-34c inland.
