I see June temps like this and I can only imagine how horrible the August fires are going to be out here.

12z GFS op looks equivalent to those crazy cold runs back in Feb that were promising high/low -10c/-20c temps at YVR and -15c/-25c in the valley.

Here, I think we have only the choice between hot, hotter and hottest. Historic heatwave is coming for sure.

Soooo..... We're going to Osoyoos area next Saturday for a week... I'm kind of concerned our little a/c system in our rv won't be able to keep up - doh!! Man, it's going to be a scorcher lol. I like heat and all, but this seems a little excessive. I'm actually pretty concerned.

I'd wait till the event is within 72-96hrs before saying it's historic. We've seen the models promise extreme heat only to moderate but extend the period of moderate heat many times in the past.

True but I'd guess it's probably easier to get extreme heat here then extreme cold. Not saying the extreme heat solutions will verify but I would give them a higher chance of verifying then historic cold.

Woah....didn't expect it to be so busy here this time of the year.....

Hope everyone is enjoying this weather? Me personally... I'm looking forward to winter ❄☃️❄🌨🌨

Any chance we might see some thunderstorms here?

This forum gets busy as soon as interesting weather is modelled.

I hope we can manage at least one thunderstorm. :D

Op GFS also didn't back down until like, 3 or 4 days before the snap. So yeah I'd echo those saying wait until 72 or even 48 hours out.

Agreed.

But it also depends how we qualify extreme heat and extreme cold. At YVR I'd say anything below -12c or anything above 30c should be the threshold (both values likely have similar reoccurrence rates as per 1981-2010 climate normals), while at YXX it's probably closer to -14c or 34c.

Worst case scenario is we see an extended period of heat followed by dry lightning in the interior. Unfortunately, such a scenario is being depicted on the Euro.

Hopefully all of this gets “watered” down as we approach the 72 hour window.

18z GFS highs for YVR/YXX (at this point I'd subtract about 5c from the Saturday-Monday numbers to be more realistic)

Friday: 25c/30c
Saturday: 29c/36c
Sunday: 32c/39c
Monday: 34c/42c
Tuesday: 24c/30c

I guess I can console myself that I no longer live in Portland, where it’s sure to get a lot hotter.
