Day 9-10 on the EPS. The only thing keeping us from baking in an extended streak of 30-35 degree temps is the sea breeze. We will see if it ends up being as strong as the models are showing right now.

South/central interior could bake for weeks if this pattern locks in. Sort of like a feedback loop.

Seems likely that records for consecutive days 35c+ or 40c+ could be challenged in places like Kamloops, Lytton, Osoyoos, Kelowna and even in cities further southeast like Grand Forks, Trail or Cranbrook.

Once again. 😉

It looks like worse than the 2019 France *June* heat wave when the all-time record was set (46.0°C).
FYI, the previous all-time record was 43.4°C and the June record was below 42°C... Some monthly records were smashed by 5, 6 or 7°C.

I fuelled up the van. That way the three kids can watch a movie and stay cool in the event there's a brownout. I saw a news article a few days ago where BC Hydro said they weren't concerned about the strain on the grid. We'll see, however.

Also, EC should have saved their warnings for such a time as this, when there's a real threat to life and/or threat of a profound disruption to daily life. I think people of generally tuned them and the media out whenever they hype a weather event. Sorry, even 20cm of snow or 50mm of rain in a day isn't enough to go trigger-happy with the warnings. Neither are high temps in the low 30's for a protracted time enough for a heat warning. Use them very rarely, so that people will pay attention.

Wow, EC has gone all in on the Chilcotin plateau. 40C would shatter the all time record. Very extreme for 1000m elevation.

I've driven through Lytton afew summers ago and the car thermometer read 42c..
we saw 40c for a few minutes in Keremeos a couple of years ago when we were driving through at the tail end of a cider tour, but it was a "dry heat"

Saturday is now in view of the 3km NAM. It will be interesting to see how the mesoscale models see this playing out.
