Logan Lake is in big trouble right now.

Update: August 14, 6:45 pm

The Tremont Creek wildfire has exhibited significant growth to the south and east. The fires edge is now within the northern boundary of the District of Logan Lake. Airtankers have been supporting throughout the afternoon and remain on scene. Ground crews, structure protection personnel and fire apparatus are established in Logan Lake to protect from ember cast and will maintain a 24 hour presence.

The District of Logan Lake has issued an expanded Evacuation Order to include Highland Valley Copper Mine. For more information please refer to the District of Logan Lake.

There has been aggressive fire near Tunkwa Lake this afternoon as a result of strong gusting winds. Structure protection has been established in this area and helicopters have been supporting with bucketing operations when visibility allows.

That doesn't sound good, Tunkwa lake is one of the most,if not the most popular trout fishing lake in BC.

Haven't had much time to look over where we're at in terms of ENSO/Solar/QBO/ect yet but I'll probably make a more detailed post about it sometime later this month or in September.

FWIW, I do feel like we're overdue for a front loaded winter though.

Anyone know what the wildfire situation was like back in 1960?

Was just looking through some data at YVR for that September and noticed smoke was reported as an hourly observation almost everyday from the 10th thru the 25th. With the exception of the last 10-15 days of August that year, early June thru early October had very little rain so I'd assume that smoke came from forest fires in the interior or closer to the coast.
