Anyone know what the wildfire situation was like back in 1960?

Was just looking through some data at YVR for that September and noticed smoke was reported as an hourly observation almost everyday from the 10th thru the 25th. With the exception of the last 10-15 days of August that year, early June thru early October had very little rain so I'd assume that smoke came from forest fires in the interior or closer to the coast.

If you look back at those year's 50's and 60's even in the winter smoke was reported many times l guess due to coal and wood burning to heat homes.

Yep, I realize that. I've seen lots of hourly obs from back then (mainly during the winters) showing smoke.

I'm assuming all the smoke in September was due to wildfires in the interior or closer to the coast since it was a very dry summer.
