Thanks! I’ve been keeping my eye on Craigslist and there actually do seem to be lots of laneway houses that come up for rent in the areas around and just to the east of the 41st and 49th Avenue Canada Line stations. Maybe I will prioritize that area. Sort of suspected the area around Little Mountain/Queen Elizabeth park would be good for snow.

Yep, Little Mountain/QE park area is the highest elevation in the city.

East of the 41st and 49th Canada line stations is definitely one of the best corridors for snow you'll see within the city. Plus its a pretty nice area since its very walkable and pretty much all services are so close by anywhere along those arterials east to the Burnaby border.

You really notice it in those classic winters (unfortunately they don't happen too often anymore) with lots of marginal events. Cold rain or a few cm of slop down by Marine and once you get up the hill (and pass cars spinning out or broken down busses ) on either Main, Fraser, Knight or Victoria past 57th and close to 49th, its a full out snowstorm with a thick blanket on the ground.

The early Jan/71 snowfall we were living down by Kits beach so even there we had 2 and ahalf feet or so.

The 2 areas l lived in that were bad for snowfall was the Broadway corridor Kitsilano area and of course Richmond. But the whole Broadway corridor all the way to Boundary and continuing along Lougheed east.
The elevation doesn't vary too much it's pretty low.

Kits is pretty bad snowfall wise due to the relatively low elevation and proximity to the Inlet.

Broadway between Nanaimo and Rupert isn't too bad. Further east (as it turns into Lougheed) it's fairly low in elevation since its in the Still Creek lowland. That's why it's flanked by a fairly large to the south towards Granview Hwy and 22nd, heading up towards the Renfrew area.

The area to the north of Still Creek on Broadway between Nanaimo and Rupert up to Hastings is the one other area in East Van that does decent for snow.

The early Jan/71 snowfall we were living down by Kits beach so even there we had 2 and feet or so.

Temps were well below freezing during the The Jan '71 event so I don't doubt it.

Was definitely one of the most significant snowfalls ever recorded for the city of Vancouver and surrounding cities (and probably worse than anything most Canadian cities have ever seen in such a short timeframe). Snow depths ranged from about 60cm at YVR to likely near 100cm in Burnaby and Coquitlam.

Agreed, was it Jan/71 that we had that 3 or 4 day snowfall? we talk about it before.

4.5 day snow event from the evening (6-7pm) of Jan 10th thru the early morning (2-3am) of the 15th.

The initial arctic front on the 10th hit Hope at 5-6am, Abbotsford at 4-5pm and Vancouver at 6-7pm.

Yup never forget school was canceled that whole week.
We had 3 good winters in a row, actually 4 out of 5 68/69 was the coldest at YVR record low, 69/70 was mild. 70/71, 71/72 and 72/73 were good,
Those were the day's.

Yeah wow l'll never forget watching the temp. drop through out the evening.
When we lived down at Kits beach from the lobby of our apartment we could see the temperature read out from the Molson tower at the south end of the Burrard St. bridge.
I remember it dropped to 17f by 2a.m. l use to sneak down to look but l think my mom knew but never said anything. of course from school you could see it and walking to school l spent lots of day's checking the temperature, man those were the day's. l tried to look up any pictures of it but haven't found anything it was triangle shape on a tower that use to turn.
It showed current weather either snow rain dull or sun, time and temp.

When do you think you'll get your first snowfall Antbgone. Early mid or late Nov.?

This Friday night into Saturday morning looks possible, but it could just dry out as it gets colder like last time.

Failing that, early November?

Had a torrential rainstorm around 5am this morning with some strong winds. Brought the snow levels down quite a bit on the hills.

Nice Score AntlerMan. Side note but weird how the Similkameens got snow already twice and you havent? I was there for the Oct 12 snowfall..only about .5cm but enough to make it barely WHITE lol

The PDO is going very negative right now. That's one great thing in our favour for snow this winter.

Tries to get there, but pacific still too active. Confident that we will see that West Coast Ridge take form in November though.
