It runs up to just south of the Coldwater Exit, from there it branched off, one line towards Merritt, the other towards Brookmeere-Tulameen-Coalmont-Princeton. A lot of the abondoned rail bed still remains and you can travel on it between the various places. The line from Brookmeere to Princeton is (was) the most in-tact part that I have travelled. The Coq Highway took away some portions of it between Brookmeere and Hope.

Here is a video I made years ago. We rode from what was then the abandoned Carolin Mines up to Coquihalla Lakes Lodge. We travel the old KVR on portions of the ride. A lot of the ride is on the Pipeline road. You can see the old snow shed and tunnels (that were shown in the video Nito posted) as well as the 3 old tunnels at the top portion of the line, right by the Coquihalla Lakes. We also travel through one of the old train tunnels.

Very cool and interesting. 8-)

Never really bothered to check out the route or research its history... though I have traveled throughout the southern interior many times and knew of the KVR and that it eventually ends up near the Hwy33/Rock Creek area.

You've gotta think if the military base in chilliwack wasn't shut by the federal government back in the 90s, they could've really helped in this situation.

Even still, it almost seems as though the response on the local level is being left entirely to community groups with no government action or assistance whatsoever.

Yup. BC is pathetic. The public, were better at handling everything, and twitter was the news. Local media was CRAP. Poor communications, and 3 days to wait for any gov. official to appear and offer help. What a joke.

Earthquake? Wow... it will be the end for all of us.

We had tons of helicopters flying out of YVR today going back and forth between the Valley and the airport. It's been interesting to see the private sector responding so swiftly and robustly while the government lags behind as usual.

Imagine how much more difficult some of these disasters would have been without social media. A positive aspect of it is that it allows people to communicate real time information and help those who are in need.

There was a Facebook group setup right away for those stuck on Highway 7 by Hope. Those stuck were offering food/help/shelter to the others who were also stuck with them. Quite amazing to see people come together in situations like that to try and make the best of it.

That's another worrying aspect about a widespread disaster like a major earthquake. Those networks would likely be down.

True.

May only be able to depend on yourself during a widespread disaster.

Easy to sling mud from the comfort of your home. Work for a govt agency that had people working through the night to make sure our sewer system didn't fail, your welcome. It also takes local media more time to put things together than somebody sending a tweet.

Again... I don't know where is he getting the data for Hope. He said in one reply he tallied up the totals from Nov 7-10th, 1990 for these totals.

Based on that and checking airport records on the EC site for Nov 1990, it shows 25.8mm on the 7th, 25.1mm on the 8th, 173.1mm on the 9th followed by 130.5mm on Nov 10th. Total = 354.5mm. Not 197mm.

Source: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... &Year=1990

Someone who has twitter... can you reply to his tweet and ask him.

Thank you for your department's dedicated service. I'm sure you can understand people's frustrations after hundreds needlessly died mere months ago and the government reaction once again appears reactive. It does appear Washington was more proactive with their warning system. But regardless there is a lot happening behind the scenes we don't see or know about, as you pointed out.
