Just seems like these days people are too quick to attribute every single extreme weather event to climate change. Yes, forest fires during the summer lead to slope instability and burn scars and undoubtedly were some of the contributors to the damage on #1 and #5. But other contributors included preceding snowpack, population increase, infrastructure increase and aging infrastructure. These are also important factors in what made the damage associated with this storm much worse compared with historical events on a similar scale, rainfall-wise.
100% agree in the sense that modern, complex infrastructure will be beat up like this as more and more extreme weather events destabilize landscapes in part due to resource development and human expansion.

We have highways through brutal territory here in BC. Instead of stripping slopes clean of trees, we should be considering the needs of more than just the lumber industry for example. We need less erosion sensitive slopes to prepare for potentially intense rainfall events.

That's true but as usual it's out there in la la land but something to watch.
I expect El Nito to respond with something opposite.

Took me a while to realize this, but Similar to Tim, Nito is vital for keeping things real when idiots like me post things that are complete fantasy. Having said that, his default opinions can at times turn out to be spectacularly wrong. But mostly he's correct in his cynicism.

Found it. I have it taped (though that word probably dates me). I signed up to be an extra in it but didn't get called. They wanted you to be available for a 12 hour day which doesn't really work for me with the farm.
