While it's highly unlikely that these snowy GFS maps will verify, I do think they are a hint of what's to come mid month. My confidence in a memorable cold and snowy pattern this month is increasing but I think the GFS is just too quick with the cold and snow.

For sure. Cool W/NW flow won't deliver much in the way of snow to the lowlands (other than small bouts of flurries/slush), but these next couple weeks will be very good for the mountains, especially after the recent AR events. Snowpack will really get going for elevations above 800m.

We had a week of cold rain/slush last winter around January 29 with cold onshore flow. It made for some interesting times on the North Shore upper areas and great skiing on Cypress but back home in Surrey, meh, just some slush. This was the best it got in my hood. Enough for us to do slush sledding.

Honestly for Sunday night I'd be happy with 1/4 of that map...realistically speaking an SFU special is far more likely, especially because we're actually still 4.5+ days out.

A darn site better than the usual 10 days out.

Yeah we could actually see a deep mid-elevation (~400-800m) snowpack if freezing levels are persistently below 800m over the next couple weeks.
