In some ways that's what ironically made it even more impressive. YVR recorded two straight highs below -10c despite the clear skies. Since then, most of our low max temps have been achieved under cloud cover.

Do you remember the big snowstorm on New year's eve 1968, following the extreme cold?
Actually Tmin, l do come to think of it l remember a huge dump around the holiday's, so that was probably it.
But didn't we do well after January/69 for snowfall as well? re loads as well that Jan.

Interesting FrozenT being lower @ Burquitlam plaza if l was a tad warmer not sure but l suppose would have been -18c perhaps, but cold air sinking don't you get your coldest reading at the lowest elevation that's why YVR does well with light winds and clear skies in winter. As well as Pitt M, Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen areas?

Yep. Lots of cold rain early month, but transitioned to cold onshore flow early-mid month where we saw multiple snowfalls before heading into a deep freeze for the remainder of the month, with lots of sun/cloud and occasional light snow. A station in Pitt Meadows dropped as low as -23.3c.

Doing so with cloudy skies thus far makes me wonder where we would be if we cleared out 4 hours ago.

Another tid from that winter of 68/69 between Christmas and New Years we had tickets to the Ice capades that use to come to Vancouver every year.
World figure skating star Karen Magnuson was with them by then.
When we came out it had snowed an inch or 2.
The Pacific Coliseum was brand new then, the following season we had NHL apparently when they built no one knew we were getting an NHL team it was kept as secret at leat that's what l remember my parents telling me.

Thundersnow in Vancouver is certainly a rare sight. If I were to guess, it was probably on Jan 15th or 16th 1969.

Looks a bit better than the GEFS. Trough on the weekend does not dig as far offshore which would limit SW flow. The NPAC ridge does get pretty narrow at one point which raises the potential of an undercut scenario if the trough digs too far offshore and interacts with the subtropical jet. Hopefully we avoid that.

One more tid bit from that historic winter, George Ferguson who played for the Montreal Canadian's his family wife son and daughter lived in the same complex as we did. So l got to play with his son sometimes.
Of course l had no idea who Ferguson was at the time, had a sleep over at their apartment one time and it was snowing like crazy l'm thinking it was the New Year's eve event.
Thinking back l wished l stayed in contact with his son. But we moved the following spring as that winter was brutal for dad to drive to Kitsilano for work, l remember some nights my dad wouldn't get home till 9 or 10 at night.
