Yes l get what you mean also East Whack man, it's so cold -7c that it seems bizarre for it to be actual rain drops falling at that temperature.East Chilliwack wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:59 am At what point does freezing rain become ice pellets? It doesn’t really make sense that the rain can fall to far in such low temperatures and remain unfrozen until contact with a surface.

Freezing rain = liquid at time of impact with ground, profile indicates shallow pool of cold air at the surfaceEast Chilliwack wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:59 am At what point does freezing rain become ice pellets? Ice pellets = frozen in layer above ground and frozen at impact, indicates a shallow warm layer aloft
Cold is on borrowed time judging by the ZR @ -7C.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
So it would be rain drops falling then El Greats, and it would be my coldest ZR event the 2nd would be Mission Dec/17, l recall it was around -4c or -5cwetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 8:10 am Freezing rain = liquid at time of impact with ground, profile indicates shallow pool of cold air at the surface

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Measured 16cm when I got home plus a few mm of ice that broke apart as I shoveled it. It’s probably compacted a bunch already and was extremely heavy....
Sitting at -2 still with freezing drizzle

Models have trended away from the dry ridgy period next week. GEM has a wicked AR signal Tuesday-Thursday with some 6-8" of rain. GFS appears to slowly be trending that way.

Well Gumps it was a barn burner Wrinkle Rock to Sardine Sardis all night, the cm's were tied then referee John the great called the game due to the fans the only one up Hounddog throwing freezing Sardines on the ice. 15cm fiinal score @ the pond in south Sardis. It's currently stuck @-7c l may have to borrow some of the WD40 to get the temp. moving again.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
That was the worst snow I've had to drive to work in. Not really deep snow but it's pure ice underneath. No traction on even a slight incline.
Still -6C with light freezing drizzle.

Currently freezing drizzle if anything
Temp -2
DP -3 , I guess it doesn't mean a whole lot when there's warm air aloft
I think during the 96/97 winter I had freezing rain starting at somewhere between -5 to -7 after the last hurrah overrunning event.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
As long as it's not 6 to 8" for the fraser valley that would be absolutely insane and devastating and crazy for an AR event like that in January but nothing surprises me anymore.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 8:25 am Models have trended away from the dry ridgy period next week. Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
I had an easier commute from Langley to Delta today than yesterday
the icy layer on top of the snow looked reflective and quite beautiful when an untouched area of snow this morning.

15 cm and haven’t been outside, but can’t see any rain or freezing rain. Seems to have stopped snowing around 2:30-3:00 here. Radar seems to confirm no rain here. I’m just outside the green.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Always seems a waste having temps so cold to be wasted on freezing liquid but it's mother nature can't change it, l hope it warms above 0c before any heavier precip later but l doubt it.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
I have lived in this area for about eight years and this is by far the worst freezing rain I have seen here and it is still well below zero so I'm not sure when this is going to end in this areaEast Chilliwack wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:56 am This might be some of the coldest freezing rain we’ve had at -7 , ususally its -3 or warmer
Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++
