I'd like to add atmospheric fart to the list for our now common outflow events.

Also known as a Pineapple Express for all the old timers. Strange how you never hear that term anymore, no wonder people are confused.

How true Abby sr. back in the day it was referred to as the pineapple express that's the terminology l grew up with. Maybe Tman or someone might know when AR entered the wording and that's another issue now aday's to many words in meteorology are thrown around.
Polar Vortex (Arctic Air) AR (Pineapple Express) IMO the Americans changed the wording.
Matt Macdonald makes a good point the word AR starts a panic, use the rating system l thought they implemented a rating system. :?

Looks more like a chilly river to me not your classic tropical origins interesting indeed. It's currently 8c @ the pond in south Sardis and a cloudy dry night with some stars visible in the central valley.

One might argue that Atmospheric River is a more scientifically accurate term. I'm not sure the same applies to Polar Vortex, which is extremely over-used IMO.

The changing terminology seems to reflect the increasing number of armchair weather experts nowadays. Pineapple Express sounds a lot more fun but less scientific.

I agree Abby sr. but keep it simple in referencing words no need to over dramatize it.
For instance l do agree with a pineapple express for AR's like Saturday nights could be a 🍍 🍍 🍍 pineapple AR warning.

Yes that's how I always remembered them.... The AR term really only seems about 5-10 years old, but perhaps I'm wrong

Lots of cold air moving into BC on tonight’s Euro.

The pattern is close to delivering some wintery weather our way.
