It’s almost always a slower and moderated result than the models see.
Agreed. Thats why I mentioned a while back that its probably easier to get historic heat here than historic cold.

Do you think schools should be closed Monday due to a lack of AC?

Luckily high school is out tomorrow. But elementary schools are not. And due to Covid, many schools and teachers have been told by principals and other higher ups to not use fans at all in the classroom in an effort to not possibly blow the virus around. Whether this is a legitimate concern or not, I am not sure. But I know that my daughter's class has absolutely been roasting in their biology lab because the classroom is upstairs, the sun beams straight through the large windows which only open a crack and there isn't AC AND they've been wearing safety gear for experiments PLUS their masks! It's been awful. I suspect this monster heatwave will create all kinds of issues. I don't think schools have ever been closed due to heat... but there's a first time for everything, I suppose.

The other issue with this heat is that Covid is still a concern and so some of the solutions for escaping the heat are not ideal right now. Who wants to escape to an air conditioned mall only to be there with possibly a lot more people and STILL have to wear a mask. Who the heck wants to escape to a local lake or pool which has limits on the number of people allowed AND still suffocate in a mask outdoors?

This whole thing spells disaster. And I don't think there's enough alarms being sounded. We, as weather enthusiasts are well aware of the possibilities with this heat wave. But I fear most people are thinking this is nothing more than our usual heat events or they absolutely do not believe that 40 degrees is possible and they laugh it off as an error. I've come across both of these scenarios all day today when I've been informing friends and family. Most of the people I've talked to had no idea of how serious and in the realm of possibility this heat wave is.

Nailed it. There are going to be unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations if we don't wake the **** up ASAP. We are a hubris based society though. We love to overestimate ourselves.

Carnage aside, I am definitely rooting for a historic heatwave.

I like anything historic or anomalous whether it is cold, heat, rain, snow, wind, drought, long stretches of boring weather (oh wait, that's the norm), etc.

I just hope people take proper precautions and use their heads. Any heat-related deaths are really unnecessary.

I think YXX will break 40c on Sunday or Monday or perhaps both days. This is completely asinine. I've been looking at the models all week and just shaking my head in bewilderment. Temperature aside, we can debate all day long about what the actual value ends up being, but add in the humidity and this will be very uncomfortable for a lot of people.

Honestly, I think they should just close the schools Monday if this heat event verifies. Even Friday and Tuesday look hot, but Monday for sure as its possibly going to be the one of the hottest days. I don't see why it would be a big deal to call an early summer vacation.

I echo your concerns that people likely won't take this serious enough. Environment Canada has made it as clear as possible in their warning that this is a dangerous heat wave forecasted, but in reality, how many people are going to take it seriously? Let's hope everyone does because this isn't a typical heat event. We could be seeing the hottest temperature ever recorded in our region and possibly in Canada. People need to prepare now and I'd assume thats why Environment Canada issued the warnings so far in advance.

Truly disgusting. At least it doesn’t look like I will see 40’s. I pity the future generations and what they will have to contend with.

Sunday and Monday have been pretty consistently modeled to be the hottest days.

Yeah I know but as Saturday has gotten within the 72hr window there has been some moderation compared with some runs from a couple days ago.
