Now we can add November/December 2022 to the list of epic winter events with that background stateAbbyJr wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 6:02 pm Looks like the QBO is trending positive and with a -ENSO, this winter could be interesting.
Of course, there are never any guarantees but -ENSO/+QBO combos are usually good for our regions in terms of cold and snow.
That said, we have 1999/00 as a tough reminder that such atmospheric and oceanic conditions don't always result in an epic winter here.
However, it worked out well many times in the past with 1990/91, 2008/09, and 2016/17 being some examples.
One can only hope.

Re: Winter 2022-23
Fun FACT: Vernon and the Okanagan in general is one of the coldest places in BC if not Canada. At least if measured by all time extreme maximum temperature on Christmas day.
Vernon has never hit 7 degrees on Christmas. Even bloody cold Fort Nelson has been over 10 degrees!

Wow, this winter (or least December) sure has quite the analog with 1983! Jan 1984 was quite mild like this month, but got cold after the middle of the month.
