Looks back-loaded for us, which actually works for safety in December for my wife and I but I would love some snow around Christmas too...

Maybe we'll finally get out first cold January (monthly mean temp <1c or <0c @YVR) on the south coast since 1993. One can dream!

Less snow than average for the N Washington and BC coast mountains coupled with above average snowfall for S Washington, Oregon and California mountains leads me to believe cooler and drier than normal for us locally, with a suppressed jet pattern dominating. Similar to 2016-17.

Of course, it could also mean split flow, but the high concentration of precip up and down the US west coast from California to Washington doesn't suit that pattern.

Yah it's a tough call this far out Tright, l'm reserving my prediction till afew months from now its 50/50 IMO as to how this winter will play out. As mentioned many times been burnt may times over the years with cold and snowy outlooks that busted.
Not that this one ever was but every year l would hope for one.

Agreed. It’s really the most plausible explanation for that map that I can think of.

Also note the area of blue in SE Vancouver Island. Strait effect snow from recurring Fraser outflow events?

How early can we put a fork in it just to save face. noticing the waters off our coast are quite warm still.
