In other news, that cold air reservoir that's been bottled up in the Yukon, NWT, and northern BC/AB over the past couple weeks looks like it won't be going anywhere in a hurry. This could realistically end up being one of the coldest Decembers on record for many locales in that region.
You'd think eventually the dam will break and that will surge south to our region with the right setup, but that doesn't seem likely at this point. Forecast to gradually sag south this week and the closest it will get to us is the interior banking up against the coastal mountains (Kamloops, Clinton, etc) as the longwave trough digs too far SW over the ocean and doesn't phase with the arctic air to force it through the gaps and inlets.
Agreed. Unfortunately, there's simply no signs of an upper level pattern favourable to drop that cold south into SWBC/PNW regions. I mean, it could still happen in January or February but that's way too far out in the clown range. At this point, we might be looking at a dud winter.

Man Tbrains that's an excellent post mortem on how we won't see Fartic air or what.
