People want to work. But they want to be fairly compensated.
Agreed it's a joke l read a living wage is 24 and change in Vancouver and 18 and change in the central valley quite the difference.

And it only dtarted when rhe government started handing out free money during Covid l don't think that's gullible itsn't that laziness and taking advantage of a situation.
Look at how many recieved CERB and weren't entitled to sorry sorry if l ruffled your feathers Kells l didn't mean to but l should have explained my reasoning.
Cerb? Cerb ended over 2 years ago and it kept the economy afloat. The nobody wants to work thing is truly just a right wing insult meant to ruffle people's feathers and make wealthy boomers think they are the victims here. As opposed to the many folks of my age group who will never own a home and get taken to the cleaners by landlords and employers alike.

Places can't find workers, yes. But these same businesses in many cases refuse to adapt and realize they are competing for employees in a free market. But instead of competing for employees they go whine to the media with all the entitlement they can muster that these magical employees they are entitled to have been stolen from them through government programs or whatever.

I'm on medical EI currently and I'm absolutely drowning financially, desparate to get back to work. The idea that people are happy to avoid work on this is frankly embarrassing. Think harder.

Seems like quite a common refrain from boomers that young people are lazy. We are not. We just know what our worth is.
All true o.k. back to weather snowball fight over. :D

Wow sorry to hear that Kells hope your recovery is quick man, my original response was to the tweet showing 1 plow truck on the Alex Fraser and the caption it'll take that guy forever to plow the bridge, so no hard feelings l apologize if need be.

Sorry for the gullible comment. It fires me up more than it should. I take it personally as someone who reluctantly is relying on the government and who also would've absolutely sunk without cerb. I just ask people realize where these narratives are coming from and who they serve. Elites and big businesses primarily.

I'm almost certain the lack of plow drivers has nothing to do with laziness and it sounds like they make great money. It's just, how do you invest in something where you might be put to work maybe 3 times a year here? The equipment is probably not cheap and you need to have a stable income.

So roughly the same this morning - didn't get any deeper, *but the snow cover is a lot denser now. Maybe a freeze will glaciate it a little and it can serve as a base for later :P

Radar wrote: Wed Nov 30, 2022 8:43 am Living wage according to the government, accountants, and others is about $16.50 an hour, so pretty sure employers pay well as most pay well over that. I think people either are lazy, feel entitled, unaware of how much they cost to employ, and have poor work ethics. https://www.livingwageforfamilies.ca/be ... e_employer

That being said, Mainroads / Emil Anderson road maintenance crews have all their wages posted online. The would be getting $40 - $55 per hour for road clearing work. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be happy with that wage.
I'm sure you don't think anyone can live off 16.50 an hour.....
You know how much it costs to rent a one bedroom let alone own a house??? The cost of food? Rent in Richmond is insane. My friend is paying 2000 and has 4 roommates and going to school and working. The cost of living here is ridiculous, I'm just fortunate I was able to find myself in a good postion and took advantage of it so I make a good yearly Income.

It was so ironic going to a Tim Hortons near me and hearing an employee get chewed out by a customer for a coffee taking 3 min and then proceeding to complain about the lack of staff.

These low paying jobs suck but the hostile people approaching the employees make it 10x worse. Even "higher paid" jobs like nursing and teaching suck due to abusive patients or parents.

Mostly for Seattle south according to the models. But if the models see it, it is not a #surprise, is it?

It may be heavy wet concrete that partially melted overnight, but at least there’s going to be snow on the ground heading into the next chilly outflow episode. And at least I scored about twice as much melty wet concrete as Downtown did. I picked my neighbourhood well.
It's called clown range for a reason.

I think we should go back to talking about the current and future weather forecasts instead of having heated discussions about wages/cerb/etc. We just had a snow storm! We shouldn't be arguing like this right now :)

Wow, crazy to see Pitt Meadows with almost triple the snow depth we have here. Settled depth is only about 5-6cm in east Coquitlam due to melt and compacting from last night's rain.
