Would prefer a gradual or slow melt too. A rapid thaw means higher slope instability increasing avalanche and landslide risks.

The bigger issue though is going to be potential flooding. The snowpack can usually absorb a days worth of rain but now we got 3-5 days of mild rain with 2500m snow levels coming with unusual amounts of snow below 500m. Low lying areas should already be on high alert.

Don't forget to keep storm drains and approaches to storm drains clear.

Enjoying the snow some what, had spinal disc removal, and fusion surgery 6 weeks ago, so have not been out much, we did receive about 35 cm of snow

My guess is we get one more pumbling of excessive snows. There is just too much cold air, and Nito said it is dense. Another 30cm snowfall Friday?

Dense air works against us in overrunning events when the onshore push gets going. I think the freezing rain aspect of Fridays storm could overperform regionwide with a disastrous result for the Eastern Fraser Valley.

I dropped off my daughter at Bridgeport station around 8:30 and an hour later she called saying that the line there didn’t even move an inch and everybody was frozen there. No translink update or what on the phone. Ended up I drove back there to pick her up and drove her all the way to downtown. Yup, translink is just a piece of sh**!

No idea how the skytrains have issues... ridiculous man. Glad everything is okay tho.

40 to 50mm has to be overdone because that would be horrible on every aspect.

33 cm storm total here. Measured in a couple different spots. No wind at my location either so measurements should be accurate. This makes up for the 2 cm I received a couple of days ago

Takes awhile to wash away this much snow. Keep hoping the AR goes south of use.

Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
Strong outflow winds and cold wind chill values will continue.

Locations: Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley.

Threat: Bitterly cold temperatures and strong winds through the Lower Mainland.

Wind Chill Values: Minus 25 to minus 20 in Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley West including Abbotsford and Fraser Valley Central including Chilliwack. Minus 30 to minus 25 in Fraser Valley East including Hope.

Time span: Today through Thursday.

Remarks: An arctic front has brought in a cold airmass to the south coast. Strong outflow winds are bringing temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below seasonal normals resulting in wind chill values approaching minus 20 to minus 30 over the Lower Mainland.

Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals. Be prepared for unusually cold temperatures and strong winds.

When is this kicking in? Very little wind right now.

My daughter checked the translink’s website before we left home but found no special announcement or updates about its services and I believe that lots of people just headed to the stations without knowing anything.
