AbbyJr wrote: Thu Dec 22, 2022 3:31 pm I'm becoming highly concerned about a major ice storm in the Fraser Valley Friday night through Saturday. Despite the models warming the surface temperatures, if the cold NE outflow persists as shown on the same models suggesting the warm up, then the heavy rain modelled would likely fall as freezing rain. Given the fact that we have such a deeply entrenched arctic airmass in place and plenty of cold to draw from in the interior, its highly unlikely we push out the low level cold with a persistent NE outflow. However, the upper levels will warm and therefore, the precipitation type in this scenario would be freezing rain and a lot of it. Widespread tree damage and power outages likely.
ya just think about how long it must take to bring concrete surfaces back up above freezing from -15C range

I've noticed it is an approximate time...at least for the Sechelt one but usually only a few minutes out, not 30.

15-20cm is my call. Freezing rain/ice pellets over the Metro area by early afternoon. I would love to be wrong. I have a bad feeling about the Eastern Valley. This could get ugly.

Stewart is used to getting a sh*t ton of snow though. 570.22 cm of snow per year. Yes, that's 5.7 m of snow!! By contrast, Whistler gets 418.7 cm of snow.

Mixed with ice pellets though. It could get pretty messy, but still awesome to look at from inside.

Edit: Except for the Eastern Valley. Nothing pretty about that. Ugh.

Any way you slice it, tomorrow is a day to avoid travel at all costs unless absolutely essential.
