One idea I have that I may do is to just have the bcstorms.ca redirect to bcstorm.ca so we can get rid of the confusion with the cookies and people getting logged out multiple times. i think that may be why it's happening.

Of course. Beliefs that get called into question by new evidence are beliefs that should probably be changed.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the initial cold will be a brief backdoor blast. Dry with strong NE outflow winds for the valley on Saturday.

There may be another reload at some point in February but its still way too soon to tell. At this point, I wouldn't expect much in the way of snow in the near future.

It's disappointing but at least we got blasted with cold and snow back in December. Keep in mind, in February 2014, the initial blast was dry but the reload later in the month brought lots of snow. So there is still plenty of winter chances left for us here.

Great Lakes and the NE USA is looking to be in a prime spot. Numerous systems on the SE edge of a persistent Hudson Bay vortex. No real bitter cold on this side of the globe though.

It's not negativity so much for me as absence of positivity. There really aren't many signs to be positive about a snowstorm in the models right now.

I'm not negative lol. If anything I've been hyping this dumb thing up too much. Models have us high and dry and more importantly, its a quick hitter.

I think it's better to use stormS with the 's' so it doesn't make it sound like it refers to only 1 event that occurred at some point in time, rather to many events ongoing. Members thoughts?

Also, perhaps since you do not use the landing page at bcstorms.ca anymore, perhaps migrating the forum to be the main site at bcstorms.ca is a good idea. Then it clears up any issues possibly caused by forums.bcstorms.ca sub domains, although I've never experience issues with forums on subdomains before, but who knows...

It is possible to configure a server to fix this issue. There are a number of ways to do it, but the best is to simply issue a redirect to a corresponding https: URL whenever a request for an http: one comes in.

P.S. The correct type of redirect to issue is a 308 redirect. This tells the browser that the preferred URL has permanently changed. A well-written browser will then change or offer to change the bookmark that prompted the redirect response.

When I get logged out, I've usually written a post and then I go to submit it and find out I need to login again. Upon doing so, the post I've written is gone and I have to start over from scratch. The other day I wrote a post, went to attach an image, and it failed to upload because I was automatically logged out. As a result, I lost my post and I did not have time to rewrite it because my break at work was almost over. This was frustrating.

Yes, this would upset and discourage me like crazy, and I can see why Storm is upset if this was happening to him. Having your post just vanish would be infuriating. Thus we need to get this fixed. Sorry it's upsetting a lot of people.

Perhaps, just for now as a precaution, before you hit the submit button, just highlight and copy your post you made so that if it does boot you, you can log in, and paste your post back into the reply box and then post it.

The website has not logged me out on any device or browser since I discovered the http:// vs the https:// difference, even though I get the old logo and the phpBB default logo depending on which device I'm on.

What I discovered personally was that if I use the unsecured http version (the browser will give you an indication that it's unsecured in the address bar, in the form of a caution sign or an unlocked padlock symbol), I will get logged out every time.

If I use the secured https version (the padlock logo will appear locked), I do not get logged out. I have since updated my favourites/history across the board to all reflect the https version so that I do not accidentally open the forum in the unsecured version. I have not been logged out anywhere since.

This could also be very related to what is going on. Related to Rubes post, the forum should not even allow the unsecured version from loading, it should just forward and load the secured version for everyone, but who knows. Clearly it is loading the unsecured version for some, and this is CLEARLY part of the issue.

Also thanks to everyone posting what they experience and what they are using, in terms of accessing the site because it does help in tracking down what could be causing the issues. Patterns are important! Browsers.. etc..
