Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Looking worse than 2003 right now. This could be a catastrophe. The fire jumped the lake already, its bearing down on west kelowna.
I had a trip planned there on Saturday, clearly not happening.

Air certainly feels cool and fresh. Might not be fresh for long with more smoke sitting in the interior right now.

Seeing more reports on twitter saying the fire has jumped to the east side of the lake and now also affecting parts of north Kelowna.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Small silver lining out of the current obs is the winds are out of the S/SW which should theoretically keep the fire north out of the city.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Ya sorry to hear that man, however probably roads leading into the Okanagan valley will probably be closed if they have to use them for evacuation routes. It's weird the 2003 Okanagan 20 year anniversary was just referenced this week insane.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Fires are just part of nature. Especially epic blazes coming out of nowhere, burning down towns and causing 20,000 ppl to evacuate. Any other opinion is alarmism.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 10:52 pm It's normal. Forest fires are good. We need more fires!

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Wildfires are in fact natural and have always occurred. It's just that as of recent they are happening in more urban areas. It wouldn't surprise me that at least some of them are being deliberately set. However, it would be impossible to prove. Even if they aren't being deliberately set, a lot of them are caused by humans being reckless meaning that they are still avoidable. Lighting caused fires are horrible and unfortunate, but when they are deliberately set by pyromaniacs or reckless behaviour, that's what's infuriating.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
There are reports that the West Kelowna fire has jumped the lake. This situation is going from extremely bad to extremely worse.
