Snow Storm Alert!!!
Major snow event to hit lower mainland Saturday night!
After seeing a bit of sticking snow at higher elevations last night and this morning, things have warmed up a bit. A slight southern push has warmed southern regions and low lying areas. This will be short lived. Temps will start to fall this evening slowly bringing a chance of wet snow/hail at higher elevations, like Burnaby Mountain overnight.
Starting tonight and tomorrow the atmosphere will be very dynamic bringing the chance of short intense bursts of flurries or thunder showers with hail. As the cold air moves in and clashes with the warmer air it may make for some exciting weather.

Saturday we will see convective showers/flurries and possible bands of heavy flurries stream across the lower mainland. Possible 3 cm of snow in localized areas are possible. Sea level may still only see showers until the evening rolls around.
Saturday evening/night is when the heavy snow begins. This will spread throughout the lower mainland from Hope to Richmond as the cold front heads west. 8 cm over night in the valley and 10 cm over Vancouver are possible.
Sunday the snow continues and eventually the eastern sections of the valley will start to dry out a bit, causing blowing snow as the wind picks up into Sunday. Accumulations by Sunday could see a total of 15 to 20 cm in the Fraser Valley, and up to 30 cm in western sections of metro Vancouver at higher elevations. Sea level could see around 10 cm. Average snowfall should be around 15 - 25 cm around the lower mainland by Sunday over night.
Flurries could continue into Monday bring further amounts, but they will be lower, perhaps around 5 cm or so. Winds will pick up so blowing snow will be an issue from Hope to Surrey. Tuesday gets cold and everything will be frozen by then. Should see some decent weather in the week with chances of flurries. Next weekend looks like another potential snow storm, but too early to call.
All of this could change in many ways as is the usual case, but this is how it currently looks. Some areas may do better, some worse, but everyone will get some measure of snow and head into a cold period that could last 2 weeks. Over night lows may be impressive!
After all the rain today, you may be able to skate on frozen fields or other area that collect water.
Eastern Vancouver Island could see snow star on Saturday and see 10 cm and as the outflow picks up, further amounts of 10 cm could be produced for around 20 cm in total over the weekend. Naniamo should get a decent amount of snow.
There are some signals that coastal sliders may develop or a stationary low, if that occurs, you can add more to your snow totals! As those are a bit unpredictable as we have seen in the past. One of those things could get parked and
spew out 20cm of snow on it's own!! Keep an eye on them!
