The snow out East has been lacking since 2015. Some areas went through a multi-year stretch with very little to no snow and constant warmth. That changed last winter.

Most of Metro Vancouver has recorded snow from 2016 to 2025. This region is absoutely due for a multi-year snow drought. I do think we will see a period of cold towards the latter winter period though.

January 2018 and January 2022 were very cold in the east.

Also, Metro Vancouver does record snow every winter, even during the warm ones.

I agree with this assessment. I think the MJO is forecasted to weaken, which hopefully leads to a jet retraction. The models keep toying with the idea of a high latitude block, we just can’t get the placement right because it keeps getting undercut with a raging jet.

06z gfs provides hope for snows in the LR (Doesnt it always tho?). It even has a Similkameen Smasher around Dec 18
Cool.
And it appears to get chilly with snow right around the STORM request day of Dec 19 too

So far it looks like from Nov 1 to Dec 15+ will be anomalously warm. Brutal. Im getting tired of February winters! Id like to know the numbers, my guess is temps +2 to +3 above normal?

I'm sure Mr Goose might help out, while he enjoys observing the soaking rains over the next several days

New normal is probably H9 L4. Thanks to climate change...we now live in a Northern California climate.
