Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
All of the ensembles keep showing plentiful high latitude blocking, but always a bit too far west. I guess that's going to be our battle this winter. There's always something. I'll be curious to know what they show by Wednesday/Thursday runs. We kinda want the pieces up stream to start coming together the week of the 15th to set us up for Christmas.

The pressure difference shown on the GFS over Greenland is pretty crazy.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Put it this way...The climate is seriously screwed if we are seeing endless AR's for 3-4 weeks. Odds are we see dry weather in week 3 or 4. Drier with fake cold or drier with arctic cold?Bonovox wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 3:12 pm All of the ensembles keep showing plentiful high latitude blocking, but always a bit too far west. Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
I would just like to point out that we are not (yet) experiencing a very rainy December.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 5:23 pm Put it this way...The climate is seriously screwed if we are seeing endless AR's for 3-4 weeks. Rainfall since Dec. 1:
99.0 mm Coquitlam-Burke Mountain (monthly normal [2014-2024]: 375.1 mm)
55.4 mm Abbotsford (monthly normal: 179.8 mm)
46.8 mm Vancouver YVR (monthly normal: 158.3 mm)
So that's totally NORMAL so far.
Many seem to forget that December is the 2nd wettest month of the year and that the averages are very high.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Yes but 374 mm "normal" is a eeeeuge amount of precip. The Similks gets that in one year. Don't move there i guess if you love lots of rainCanada Goose wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 5:43 pm I would just like to point out that we are not (yet) experiencing a very rainy December.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Of course, but if the normal is 350 mm, a "wet" month of 250 mm would be well below normal.
If 5 mm of rain falls in Iquique, Chile, that represents six years' worth of rainfall.
It's always important to talk in terms of relative to the average.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Quite rare but it can happen on occasion. For example, this is the 100th anniversary of one such December.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 5:23 pm Put it this way...The climate is seriously screwed if we are seeing endless AR's for 3-4 weeks.
