Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
at least it seems we have finally broken the cycle of AR's..brutal last 7 weeks for snow lovers, like wow.
I hope T3 is correct, and hopefully we get into a new #patternlock of cold/snowy from Early Jan to early March
Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++

We could always have a front loaded winter in a +ENSO phase while also having endless weeks of fake cold

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah no....the next El Nino is going to shock people with how warm things can get. Like even on Nina years like this one you're seeing places like Denver hit 70+, I noticed there's a severe wildfire warning there right now with all these windstorms.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:25 am We could always have a front loaded winter in a +ENSO phase while also having endless weeks of fake cold![]()
When El Nino hits at our current level of global warmth, you're going to see stuff you wish you'd never seen. And yes, one small corner of the world will get a massive cold snap and that will somehow be seen as a counterpoint to the ongoing catastrophe of Anthropogenic Global Warming. Oh well.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
I would take it further, I bet we see places get 20-25 regularly. And it will be entirely blamed on El Nino, as if El Ninos used to cause this, or as if La Ninas are even cold anymore.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
A warming climate does lead to more flucuations. There will still be varying weather than constant extreme warmth. Yes, I think we will see winters run 2C to 4C above the norms we experienced prior to 2010 but there's evidence that we will see increased PV disruptions. SSW and the intensity of PV disruptions is beginning to matter more than whatever ENSO state we are in.PortKells wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:32 am Yeah no....the next El Nino is going to shock people with how warm things can get. Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Ya, I feel like the default La Nina forecast isn't what it once was. La Nina winter's seem to take a while to get going around here lately... we seem to feel the effects much later on. Good for some slushy snowfall as we get towards spring.
I've come to the realization a while ago that as much as we have all these predictions and models and analogs and experts and the polar vortex and SSWs, and Ninas, and Ninos, and Nitos, the weather will just do what it wants to do. It doesn't like to follow text book guidelines, especially nowadays.
Who knows, maybe the upcoming Nino next year will turn out to be our coldest and snowiest in a long while.

Re: December 2025 Forecasts and Discussions
Here's the thing, La Nina usually means cooler and wetter in the PNW and warmer and drier elsewhere. Here's an example from NOAA https://www.climate.gov/media/13099PortKells wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 11:32 am Yeah no....the next El Nino is going to shock people with how warm things can get. You can also see here the temperatures departures that even for example in the 60s there were warm temperatures during La NIna https://www.climate.gov/media/8905
