We are going to see endless mild or seasonal rains
/showers along with periodic weak ridging until the southerly stream shuts down and that NPAC ridge slides towards 155W. That's the reality. Models still do not show this happening in the next 16 days. They keep depicting an elongated trough digging over us in the 12-16 day range but it's clear it's not going to verify.

Looks like they stay pretty cold for the next little while.

Going to have been quite the stretch of cold weather when all is said and done.

Environment Canada's forecast for Abbotsford today:
Periods of rain. Amount 5 to 10 mm. Wind south 30 km/h gusting to 50 increasing to 60 gusting to 80 this afternoon. High 6.
Not sure why they are expecting gusts up to 80km/h here. Unless the surface maps are wrong, the strongest winds will be confined to SW/SE sections of Metro Vancouver. While I'm no expert by any means, I'm not convinced I'll see anything more than a run of the mill breeze.

1998-99 was another winter with endless rains here with a very active zonal jet. We did have a fairly significant cold snap with a big snowstorm just before Christmas though.

This could have been a great December if that cold air had sunk down another 1000 miles. This will go down as one of the coldest winters in Western Canada...and we're eating pineapples all winter.
