Saturday still on track to be our coldest day of the winter so far.

A bit of outflow in the Fraser Valley with that push of modified arctic air into the southern interior as it clips the south coast. 850mb temps will dip to -9c.

To be fair, 2017 wasn't too bad (18th coldest since 1937).

The fact that January 2017 is the coldest in 33 years is very telling.

Especially given the fact we've seen a few top tier cold Decembers during that timeframe as well.

Threshold for a cold January @ YVR (imo): monthly mean <1c
Threshold for a cold December @ YVR (imo): monthly mean <1.5c

The fact that January 2017 is the coldest in 33 years is very telling.

Especially given the fact we've seen a few top tier cold Decembers during that timeframe as well.

For December, that's not that bad.

Yeah, my point exactly. We are capable of seeing cold Decembers in the past 30 years, but not January. Odd!
