Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah the models keep watering down the troughs. Either showing cut-off troughing or some sort of cool split flow. Not the huge Mountain snowmaker we need. I still think conditions will get favorable for lowland slush in early-mid March.
My parents are under nearly 150cm of snow in Ontario and there are now 2 more snowfalls showing up within 8 days. They could break 200cm. When will it melt? May?

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
If there has been no snow by the 23rd and there is none in the models before the end of the month, it will be time to officially stick a fork in this so-called “winter.”

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
We will essentially have a never ending Autumn that lasted about 7-8 months, from Oct-April, with snow levels sitting between 3000-6000 ft almost the entire time, minus the odd drop to 1k-2k.

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
We are probably in a multi-year cycle similar to 2014-2016. Maybe 2027-28?

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
The 12Z Euro has a decent NW flow snowfall in the clown range. No real arctic air but just a very cold polar low with an offshore North Pacific block. Looks like a surface low develops and spreads moisture over a modified arctic airmass. The timing is picture perfect as most of the moisture comes in through the evening and overnight hours, which helps maximize the cold. A very dynamic setup that was much more common here in the past.
While this solution is unlikely to verify, both the EPS and AIFS show a cold onshore flow. Unfortunately, it's a complex setup and 300hrs+ out.

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
Of course I'd rather have daytime snowfall but evening and overnight snow is better than nothing.
