Skeptical that will bring sticking snow down to SL but it's much better for areas like Burnaby Mtn, Westwood Plateau and Catnip Hill.

I'll take a mountain snow extravaganza. Anything at SL is a bonus.

Yeah. I know it sucks for those living at sea level to hear this but an over the water trajectory with less continental influence is probably the best outcome for the Mountains....even if that tanks lowland snow chances.

Exactly.

January 1954 is one of many examples of classic over the water trajectory polar lobe events for the PNW that had strong continental origins.
Notice the deep vortex over the NW Territories and how it dives into BC and the PNW from the NE:

Jan 13th:
jan131954.gif

Jan 14th:
jan141954.gif

Jan 15th:
jan151954.gif

In this case, the polar lobe ejected continental air into the region before moving out over the water. This is the ideal setup here with the arctic air becoming deeply entrenched and then a surface low forming offshore. This was a similar event to March 1951 but it was colder. Both of those events produced historic low elevation snows in our regions. Unfortunately, those continental over the water trajectory arctic blasts are very rare nowadays.
