Too bad we couldn't trade one of the dullest winters ever for a Canada win.

Blizzard for Halifax too. Alerts issued by Environment Canada:
3:39 PM AST Sunday 22 February 2026
Impact Level: Moderate
Forecast Confidence: High
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
Total snowfall: 20 to 30 cm, with locally higher amounts possible.
Maximum wind gusts: northeasterly 70 km/h, except 90 over exposed areas.
Time span: Monday morning until early Tuesday.
Remarks: Strong winds accompanying the snow will reduce visibility at times in blowing snow. Snow is expected to transition to rain along the Atlantic coast Monday evening.
Travel will likely be challenging. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.
Prepare for some disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities.
Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather (such as snow, freezing rain, wind and rain) are expected or occurring.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NSStorm.
In effect for:
Halifax Metro and Halifax County West
3:48 PM AST Sunday 22 February 2026
Elevated water levels and wave activity are possible.
Locations: Atlantic coastlines of Shelburne, Queens, Lunenburg and Halifax counties.
Time span: during high tide later Monday evening.
Maximum wave heights: 5 to 7 metres, breaking upon approach to shore.
Remarks: An intense low pressure system will bring very strong northeast winds and high waves to the above regions later on Monday. Storm surge combined with wave action near high tide may raise water levels above the highest astronomical tide.
People in coastal areas should monitor conditions closely in case they begin to worsen.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NSStorm.
In effect for:

Yup. The weather sucks here compared to the east. That is, if you like dynamic weather and storm chasing. I'm excited to move to Ottawa.

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
The 00Z RGEM has around 40cm of snow for Halifax tomorrow with wind gusts around 70 to 80km/h. Why can't we get that here?

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
While we have had that before, the simple answer is it’s Halifax. They would expect that far more often.
However I had 50 cm between Dec 17-19 2023, I don’t remember the wind gusts but it was breezy. It can happen.

We had 0cm in December 2023. Must've been a pretty localized event in your backyard.

Did you mean Dec 17-19 2022?
Yes it does happen here too, but far less than the east coast. Halifax is simply more prone to major winter storms as its location and geography favours significant convergence with continental air from the north colliding with subtropical moisture to the south. Imagine a Pineapple Express meeting up with a direct discharge of pure arctic air. Those types of airmass collisions happen far more frequently on the east coast than here.

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
The funny thing is, I do know someone who lives in NYC (moved there from the West Coast to be closer to her adult children). She hates snow, and has been miserable this winter at the same time I have been casting jealous eyes eastward.
NYC had a years-long snow drought before finally scoring big again this season. Hopefully we don't have to endure as long as they did.
Meanwhile, I close out this so-called “winter” with no more than a few fleeting slushfalls that briefly turned the ground and rooftops white.

Re: February 2026 Forecasts and Discussions
I remember 2004/05 winter being a total dud. We didn’t really get any accumulating snow in Whonnock except some flurries. I haven’t had snow in Chilliwack this year. I believe my family in Whonnock had snow this last week and it stuck around a few days.

Yeah my bad it was 2022, I keep mixing up those years. Dang that’s a while ago now, feels very recent somehow.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Sun Feb 22, 2026 10:33 pm Did you mean Dec 17-19 2022?
