1060mb high that's getting up there the Feb 1989 cold spell was something like 1070mb l recall in past years a 1060mb high was usually a given and sure enough we'd get Arctic air now they are far and few between.

l don't think you missed much rainfall Jr. It snowed all night at my work and switched over to a very light mix at 4:30a.m. l was surprised how long it stayed as snow but there wasn't much more accumulation during the night it came down pretty good too.

Re: February 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Let's not forget about the extreme temperatures the GFS was spitting out before the Jan cold snap... reality ended up being about 10C warmer. Even the more conservative ECMWF was about 3-5C too cold at one point.

Re: February 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Good point Abby Sr. But i do give the GFS huge credits for snagging that cold pool of air 14 days out. Amazing really. It was a VERY cold airmass, and with a cupla small details different, could have been an extremely cold airmass. Alas, the Pacific Ocean was too much. As was the globally warm temps this winter. Considering how warm the rest of the northern hemisphere winter has been the last several weeks, we had quite the cold considering.

Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++

Re: February 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Its too bad all this cold and snow from all the last 4 Febs didnt show up in the Dec 15 -Jan 31 timeframe instead. Coulda/Woulda been some massive snow dumps that lasted.
Maybe one of these years we will thread the needle and deliver the goods in that timespan instead, like it did in 2008. What a beauty winter streak of 2 weeks that was. Geezus. Cant believe that has been 11 years already

Re: February 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Yes good points Abby Sr. are you house hunting yet or waiting till spring/summer. I notice one thing my work area near Sumas is absolutely a non snow area seems your locale to the north of my work falls in that zone unfortunately. I hope you find a location you like and for better snowfalls.

That's true but it was cloudy. With clear skies, we would have got around -15C in YVR.
