It's been above zero in Chilliwack all day. Might be time to end the snowfall warning?Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:57 pm Still trying to figure out where this snowfall warning is coming from what joke.

Went to South Surrey today. Gumps, you did well. Nice snow cover there. Even snow piles in the parking lots of the malls. It's like totally reveresed from normal as my area usually sees the bigger snowfall and your area less. Very odd.

My official rating for this winter is D-
It started out with hope, and just took a dive into the steaming heap of dog poop.
AbbyJr you are our only hope now. If there is light, you will find it.

I fully respect the education and skill of the EC meteorologists. However, some of their decisions on when to issue and end warnings as well as their warning criteria is perplexing.

Unreal.. just unreal. Shows how pathetic the west coast is. Lame ass ocean does nothing but hinder our cold chances.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I thought the weather forecasts used to be more accurate too but figured it was just my good-old-days impression. Does anyone have any stats to back this up?Hound wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:52 pm I don't know, while that is somewhat true, it's only here in Western Canada that we have this problem, and it extends into the Western USA as well. There is something else going on. I recall better forecasts in the 1980's, and how is that possible with the betterment of technology? OH! It's like road building. Roads built in the 1960's are superior to any road built today. In fact many new roads are so pathetic it looks like drunk people made them. For example, 16oth St. between 24th and 32nd Aves. What a cluster muck! The curbs are crooked, the road too narrow, the lanes are not straight, they weave around stuff.. it's pathetic.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I really have to suspect something institutional. I.e. the scientists are under coercion of some sort to produce certain results, the science be damned. I suspect something similar about why some forecasts on this side of the border (particularly the two most recent snow events) have been so ridiculous.
It just makes no sense to forecast 1 to 3 inches of snow when both the Euro and GFS have been consistently modeling 6 to 8. It is obvious to me that when both these models consistently agree on something, it almost always verifies, and I can’t fathom that it is not obvious to the staff meteorologists at forecasting agencies.
In the NWS’s case, I suspect a policy of punishing forecasters severely for false alarms, and punishing them less severely or not at all for missed warnings. Perhaps EC has the contrary policy; it would explain why they seem so eager to issue snowfall warnings for tenuous set-ups.
It's called clown range for a reason.
