Not bad but missing tilt. We’ll definitely take it for high elevation snowpack provided there’s precipitation.

The thing that worries me a bit is there really isn’t a source of real cold air during the first half of January. So, even if we get a trough setup over the west coast, I don’t think we’ll see impressive cold.

With that said, we don’t need impressive cold to get snow. Some offshore flow with continental influence will do the trick, so I do think we’ll see some flakes.

While all this is happening, I think the cold pool really builds up over Northern Canada. The best dynamics however will probably favour eastern Canada by then. Hopefully, we can get some back door action or a glancing below before it shifts east.

Agreed. But if we can somehow manage to get a major SSW with a polar vortex split, then we may be able to tap into some colder arctic air.
But models have significantly backed off on that solution. However, a minor SSW is still likely meaning we will have a weak polar vortex throughout January. Unfortunately, that likely won't be enough to fully reverse the dominate El Niño pattern. But some cold and snow is still possible.

I just want a dry so we can actually dry out. It has been damp for 2 months here.

Would be nice to do a January mow without the grass sticking to everything.

A week or two of some below normal temps in January during this El Torcho should be applauded at this point. Of course anything more would be great, but gotta keep expectations in check.

The mountains really need some snow but this looks like it may be a dry potential cool down.
